Porter And Stout Beer At Redh

Porter and stout beers are known for their dark colour and rich taste which often makes it hard to distinguish the difference between a porter and a stout beer.

The ‘porter’ name originates from the beer being very popular with port workers in London back in the 19th Century thanks to their warming characteristics. They usually have more dark fruit to them. Stout beer, on the other hand, came about years later and were first known as ‘stout porters’ before the name was quickly adopted and shortened to stout over in Ireland. These were simply a more alcoholic version of porters and generally flaunt big roasted malt and bitter qualities. Despite their different histories and flavours, both porter and stout beers are delicious winter beers, particularly well accompanied with hearty roast dinners or meats.
